Tacking in Brighton
Dry lining in Brighton has grown considerably over the past 20 years. Drylining is renowned for being quick and relatively clean to apply compared to equivalent two-coat plaster systems. Drylining is simply the application of plasterboard to surfaces such as timber studs, masonry, or metal studs, using the correct fixings for each surface.
When drylining timber or metal, this is known as “tacking”. This is a relatively straightforward process, as both timber studs and metal studs have flush joining edges. We measure each sheet of plasterboard, make any necessary cuts to match the area it will be fixed to, then secure the board to the studs—whether on a wall or ceiling. For increased strength and durability, we always prefer to use drywall screws.
Dot and Dab in Brighton
Another option for dry lining in Brighton is fixing plasterboard to masonry walls. This process is commonly known as “dot and dab”. It is typically more skilled than tacking to studs, as it involves working with a specialist plasterboard adhesive.
The adhesive is applied to the wall first in fist-sized lumps, or “dabs”, using a plasterer’s hawk and trowel. Each sheet of plasterboard is then carefully manoeuvred into position onto the evenly spaced dabs.
Once in place, the board is checked for level and squareness, both vertically and horizontally.
